A watershed is an area of land drained by a river or stream. Similar to the branch of a tree, creeks empty into streams, which then empty into larger streams, eventually forming one main trunk, or river.

In our watershed, all of these rivers ultimately drain into Lake Simcoe. Within this system, everything is connected to everything else. In other words, actions which take place at the top of the system can and do affect those downstream.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is a local watershed management organization that’s been focused on the conservation, restoration, and management of the Lake Simcoe watershed for over 70 years.

We work with a variety of partners, including community groups and non-profit organizations, municipal, provincial, and federal governments, to not only provide the best scientific information on the health of the Lake Simcoe watershed, but to also protect and restore the Lake Simcoe watershed with innovative research, policy, and action. 

Our role in the community is multi-faceted and crucial to the well-being of residents in the watershed.

From flood control to low impact development to climate change to aquatic biology and forestry, we have a team of engineers, planners, scientists, environmental educators, and other subject matter experts, that work together to improve the environmental health of our communities.
